At Girls on the Run, we are always looking for new coaches that believe in our mission and want to support our Colorado girls. We know that volunteering your time and talents is a big commitment and want to make sure you are equipped with all the tools you need to succeed in this exciting and life changing experience. So, what does becoming a coach at GOTR look like?
Our trained coaches deliver our 10 week program that inspires girls to understand themselves, recognize their inner strengths as well as value relationships and teamwork. Coaches serve as role models that help uncover our girls’ authentic selves and encourage them to reach their full potential. As a coach, you are at the heart of our intentional programming. You don’t need to be a runner or an athlete to make an impact. The most important attribute is your willingness to make a difference and encourage all of our girls to succeed. We ask that you are available during after-school hours, usually between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
Our teams meet twice a week, after school for an hour and a half and we expect coaches to attend every session (this way we ensure you build rapport with your team and co-coaches and get the full scope of our lesson plan which builds from lesson to lesson). All of our new coaches must attend one of the in-person training sessions offered for the season, as well as complete online coursework prior to training. The training provides an overview of the organization and the program and helps ensure our research based, intentional curriculum is presented consistently to our children. The total time investment of training is approximately 6-8 hours. Many of our coaches say they get as much out of the program as the girls do.
Each season comes to an end with a celebratory, non-competitive 5K which gives girls (and all of our wonderful participants) a tangible sense of accomplishment and the opportunity to experience the joy that comes with working towards an ambitious goal.
We would love for you to be a part of this life-changing experience and help guide our girls through this empowering transformation. We are here to support you. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have ANY questions.
