About Us

OUR MISSION | WHAT WE DO | WHO WE ARE | CONTACT US

We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Our Vision

We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

Our Values

  • Recognize our power and responsibility to be intentional in our decision making
  • Embrace our differences and find strength in our connectedness
  • Express joy, optimism and gratitude through our words, thoughts and actions
  • Nurture our physical, emotional and spiritual health
  • Lead with an open heart and assume positive intent
  • Stand up for ourselves and others

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Girls on the Run is committed to ensuring that any person, regardless of race or ethnicity, socioeconomic level, ability,  gender identity, or geographic region can access and be successful in the program. The organization works to support high-quality health outcomes and equity for every member of the community through intentional program outreach, coach recruitment and training, problem-solving of participation barriers, and curriculum modifications for participants with sensory, physical or intellectual disabilities.

Girls on the Run is intended for those who identify as girls (regardless of their assigned sex at birth), non-binary youth, gender non-conforming youth, and/or youth exploring their gender identity or expression and youth whose genders and gender identities have been historically marginalized.

We work to ensure increased access to the program through intentional recruitment of high-need sites, which may include Title I schools and non-traditional school sites. No participant is ever turned away due to financial need. The  organization offers site-based fees on a sliding scale in addition to need-based scholarships for families with demonstrated need.

WHAT WE DO

Girls on the Run is: Meaningful. 91 % of participants said they learned intentional decision-making.
Girls on the Run® is a 501(c)3 physical activity-based positive youth development (PA-PYD) program designed to develop and enhance girls’ social, psychological, and physical competencies to successfully navigate life experiences. The Girls on the Run® program combines training for a 5K with an interactive curriculum targeting the promotion of competence, confidence, connection, character, caring, and contribution.

Girls on the Run® creates a psychologically safe environment for girls to learn about themselves, connect with others, and contribute to the community. Focus on competition and ability in physical activity contexts is often a barrier for participation for girls.  Girls report more enjoyment, satisfaction, and positive relationships with others in climates focused on improvement, skill mastery, effort, and peer support.  Take a moment to learn more about Our Program.

Program participants learn to:

  • Develop and improve competence
  • Feel confident in who they are
  • Develop strength of character
  • Respond to others and oneself with care and compassion
  • Create positive connections with peers and adults
  • Make meaningful contributions to community and society
