YOUR GOTR GIRL’S LEARNING JOURNEY: AT HOME AND BEYOND

In Lessons 13-20 of Hello, Mountain Mover!, your child will focus on friendships and feelings. Teams will learn about the power they have to choose their friends by identifying important qualities in relationships and understanding the challenges they may face in friendships. They will also explore why it can be difficult to choose friends and how to seek out those who support and empower them. In addition, they will practice expressing their feelings using tools from their GOTR tool box to communicate openly and effectively, recognizing the importance of sharing emotions, even when it can be difficult.

They will also focus on teamwork, community impact, and reflection. They will discover the concept of “we can” power, where teamwork allows them to achieve what may be difficult alone.  The girls will learn about how all our individual and collective strengths can help a larger group and how to positively influence and make a difference in their communities. They will work together on a Community Impact Project. The girls will be discussing compromise and cooperation. They will use these two concepts to come up with an idea for the project. As the season comes to an end, the girls will reflect on their accomplishments, considering how they can use the skills they have gained. The final lesson will celebrate their growth, highlighting their favorite moments and valuable tools they will take into life everyday.

HELPFUL TIPS FROM OUR FRIENDS AT HCA HEALTHONE

Daylight Savings is around the corner. Be sure to FALL BACK on Sunday, November 3rd! Our friends at HCA HealthONE have some great suggestions to ensure adequate sleep for young athletes.

“Athletes need an appropriate amount of sleep for optimal health and peak performance,” explains Rachel Brewer, MD, a pediatric sports medicine physician (and Girls on the Run coach) with HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Pediatric Orthopedics. “Research shows that sleep increases speed, accuracy and reaction times in athletes. Additionally, sleeping less than the recommended approximately eight hours each night increases the risk of injury.”
