Dear Girls on the Run caregivers,
We're excited to share what your GOTR/Heart and Sole participant will learn in Lessons 9-12 as they continue to learn and develop important life skills.
YOUR GOTR GIRL’S LEARNING JOURNEY: AT HOME AND BEYOND
In Lessons 9-12 of Girls on the Run, your child will continue building important life skills by exploring what it means to make, be and choose friends. They'll practice stepping out of their comfort zone to talk to someone new and ask thoughtful questions to build connections. They'll also think about how they activate their Star Power in friendships and how their friends help bring out the best in them. Through these lessons, they'll learn how to spot if a friend's actions are a Friendship Booster, Breaker or Tester and decide what makes them feel good in their relationships.
Additionally, your child will build confidence in communication by practicing the “I feel…when you…because…I would” strategy. This tool helps them express their feelings in a clear and kind way, making it easier to handle tough situations. These lessons will all come together as they prepare for their practice 5K.
In Lessons 9-12 of Heart and Sole, our middle school program, your child will focus on building empathy, recognizing support systems, and developing the confidence to ask for and offer help. They’ll explore “Other People’s Wheels” where they'll learn to recognize when someone might be struggling and brainstorm ways to offer support. They will also dive into SOS, where they'll identify barriers to asking for help and practice strategies to overcome them.
Your child will also take time to reflect on the different types of support available in their lives, recognizing who is in their support system and where they might need more support. Finally they practice asking for and offering help, recognizing their own strengths and learning how to lean on others when needed. These lessons will all come together as they prepare for their practice 5K.
PRACTICE 5K
The teams are hopping, skipping, jumping, and running their way to the end-of-season 5K. Most teams will be hosting their practice 5K very soon. During the practice 5K, teams will put everything they've learned into action, activating their Star Power to achieve one of many goals they've been working on all season. This is a great opportunity to join in the fun - be it running, passing out water, or simply being at the finish line to cheer all the girls on. Check in with your coaches to see when the practice 5K will be and how they can use your help!
